there are two sides to every story each is a window to the truth did i trip and fall from the second floor or was i pushed from the roof? we played with matches in the basement you clean our wounds by the light of the flame but is it really kindness if it’s ultimately for your own gain? “like a wounded animal, afraid, and fighting to get free they only bite when they’re in pain so do your worst if that’s what you need” but you don’t know what you’re askin for i’m not that speckled fawn anymore the bullet holes are gone like my fingerprints on your front door i don’t wanna think like you anymore. people will tell you exactly who they are if you just listen the truth is hidden somewhere in the caricature so pay close attention you’ll know it when you see it but it’ll hurt and you won’t wanna believe it it’s an underhanded kindof help and the more you accept it the more you second guess yourself “like wounded animals, afraid, and fighting to get free they only bite cause they’re in pain so just say what you gotta say to me” but you don’t know what you’re askin for i’m not your speckled fawn no more the bullet holes are gone and all those nights of sleeping on your floorI was a wounded animal to you but i refused to bare my teeth you told me to get it off my chest and i did, because i am weak but i shoulda known better than to speak when i was sore cause if there was something we coulda salvaged, it sure ain’t there anymore

you got plans to meet god in the shake of your hand it’s where we planted our wood and strings in the sand a makeshift garden in the crease of your palm where no callous could grow nor anything at all “i wanna watch you exist for as long as i can” sacrifice sleep together again on the fluorescent sand but we were too small, and far too scared to grow just animals with bitter pills that we struggled to swallow when the tide is low our ghosts marvel at the shadows they cast they are restless for a future, one that i'm still trying to get past you said this world will cannibalize the weak, but i disagreed well, it was easy to be optimistic when i was young and naive after a few thousand miles in the unforgiving heat, i saw it it looked just like me but it had your teeth

counter culture man, a creature of pride he hates himself and yet, still thinks he’s always right with a need to be adored that he cannot satisfy at least, not by himself so he picks a sad sweetheart who is loved far and wide earns their trust while he digs the thorns from their side he’s no stranger to blood, you can see it in his eyes you’re his ticket in, he’s the light of your life there’s a sharpness hidden in the love between a professional savior and someone who didn’t ask for saving if ever so inclined, they can wield it anytime “i neglect myself-” he said “-and you’re the reason why” but he’s so engaging that it’s easy to forget he’s always waiting for the right time to come and collect on your emotional debt, you never had any say but he will assure you that the world has always worked this way “you can make it sound a little better but that won’t change what it is relationships are investments it’s all just business” now he knows your weaknesses and the rate which you bleed from watching your apologies fill up the bathroom sink he knows how to play naive, so don’t buy into his mistakes if you feel smaller when he speaks, that’s cause he planned it that way then came the splintering sound, louder and louder it grew it scratched the backs of your eyes, it made a fool outta you born in the bed pride made when you refused to walk away at the edge of a parking lot, the devil is coming out of you in waves choking on a metaphor, the writhing spite within comes out a wretched orange bile, there’s no end to it got a good taste of that medicine when you overdosed on bitter pills and if you don’t learn this time, i don’t think you ever will
4.
take a look at yourself it’s pouring out of you couldn’t stop it if you tried i don’t want nobody’s help cause if i can’t do this by myself then that means you were right i get scared when it gets loud i feel threatened by the sounds i can’t control there’s probably something there to address nonetheless, i will be by the train tracks where i listen to the thunder i like listening to the thunder i found power in exposure i learned it sometime in grade school the meaning of the word “callous” the difference between my hands and my father’s it made sense to see armor grows where it needs to be so that’s my excuse for holding onto what hurts me you got under my skin i’ve watched it growing thicker around you like a splinter and i’m ashamed at how long it’s been i wear my weight in self-doubt gotta few bad habits but i'm not the only one with baggage we all got shit to figure out there’s no conclusion to draw it could’ve been the drugs we were on pushing us close to each other making those seconds last so long and all this time a question slept beneath my chin did you feel what i felt, or did i just imagine it? if you felt what i felt, do you wanna feel it again?
